When cooking with a propane barbeque can you add a few pieces of charcoal?

I like the ease of cooking with propane but miss the taste and smell of a charcoal barbeque.

No, don’t do that. The flames consume the charcoal to fast. You will get off flavors.

Do either gas or charcoal but don’t try to combine them.

Charcoal can clog your gas vents, be careful!! I use wood chips to add some smoky flavor. You can buy chips at your grill store, soak a few in water and add to the grill. the we chips will smoke to give you the flavor.

We did that and messed up the grill. I would not advise it.

Do you really like the smell of the briquettes or do you like the smokey taste? buy some wood chips ( I like apple) at a store in the grill section wrap them up in aluminum foil, so it resembles a long fat cigar. Poke several holes in the foil and place this on one side of your grill as you preheat. Leave the side with the wood chips on high and lower the other side down to cook on. Trust me you will love the taste
