When you Barbeque chicken should you put the Barbeque on while cooking it or after?
I guess you meant if you should put the BBQ SAUCE on before or after. You can do either, because if you put the sauce on first (marinate it) it will penetrate the meat and get better flavor, however the disadvantage is that the sauce burns easily in high heat and your BBQ will have a blacker look.
If you put the sauce on at the end of cooking it may not burn but the flavor stays on the surface only.
The best way in my experience is to marinate the meat in the sauce and leave it for 2 hours before cooking and when I cook I do it on very low indirect heat (away from the coals). When the meat is fully cooked I then add some more sauce; cook for another minute or two then remove it from the grill.
Yummm

well let’s face it, it won’t cook unless you put it on!

Otherwise always put BBQ sauce on cooked meat. So, cook one side, flip the chicken put the BBQ sauce on it while other side is cooking.
